Wow Indonesia Now In 2nd Position On Facebook Users List

November 2010 statistics on Facebook users by country indicate that Indonesia has moved to 2nd Place, just behind USA, making this Asian country with the highest Facebook users after Facebook founding country (USA).

Impressive indeed, considering that in September 2009, Indonesia was still in the Top 10, behind countries like Turkey, France, Canada, and the UK (# 2 spot at the time). Fast forward to September 2010, and Indonesia notched up to 3rd spot with some 26.8 million users as reported in earlier post, half a million users shy of the UK-s 27.2 million, in 2nd place.

Growth has been primarily driven by web-enabled smartphones, but even simpler mobile phones can access Facebook accounts via SMS text messaging. Facebook has entered mainstream pop culture, and the word has entered colloquial term for staying connected. The “Fesbookers” are a force to be reckoned.

With so many people “socializing” on their Facebooks, the question any Brand-Builder needs to ask is how to utilize it as a communication channel to stay connected and being included in the “conversation”. This is, after all, the era of millions of potential customers with individual voices that is channeled through Facebook and other Social Media tools.

Here-s another interesting fact that should get any Brand-Builder salivating:

Indonesia has a fairly young population and on Facebook, the 13 to 25 age groups are over-represented compared to the makeup of the company-s top 16 markets

The youth drives growth, Facebook is their playground (for now…) and to understand their behavior, any serious Brand-Builder must “jump into such playground” and understand what makes them tick! Given the fast pace of change and the fidgety nature of teens and youth, analyzing this is easier said than done. But the potential won-t go anywhere, any time soon.

Unfortunatly the social networks media made by indonesian youngster KOPROL has been acquired by Yahoo. Seeing this potential review, it might get more achieved if KOPROL developed as a Facebook competitor more seriously as an IT products made and develop by indonesian people.
